 – Dedication of the new Billy Graham Library

On May 31, 2008, William J. Chatlos, along with his wife Janet, Board Chairman, Katheryn Randle and Trustee, Cindee Random had the honor of attending the dedication of the new Billy Graham Library in Charlotte, North Carolina. Over 241 credentialed journalist and 1600 invited guests attended the event.

When asked his reaction to the day’s activities, Mr. Chatlos told a reporter from Decision magazine, “It just made you feel that God’s presence was here with you, and you felt like worshiping Him through the whole event.” According to Franklin Graham, it was Billy Graham desire for “the purpose of this Library is to point to God, not man.”

– Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation Award

The Chatlos Foundation, Inc. was chosen as the “Outstanding Philanthropic Foundation” of the year for 2007 by The Association of Fundraising Professionals, Central Florida Chapter. The foundation was nominated by Hospice of the Comforter.

The award was presented to President William J. and Janet Chatlos, representing the foundation, at the National Philanthropy Day ceremonies held at the Ritz Carlton Orlando Grande Lakes Hotel. Nine other individuals and organizations were honored at a breakfast meeting on Wednesday, November 7, 2007.

This was the 22nd Annual Awards Breakfast hosted by the AFP Central Florida Chapter.  The sponsors for the event were Bright House Networks and The Ritz-Carlton, Orlando Grand Lakes.  The event featured Allison Walker from Central Florida News 13 as the emcee, and drew more than 500 local business leaders and philanthropists, and featured an awards ceremony honoring individuals, foundations and corporations whose gift of time, expertise and resources contributed significantly to the quality of life in the community.

This year’s ceremony was commemorated by both Orange County Mayor Richard T. Crotty and Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer, who recognized the date as “Orange County Philanthropy Day” and “City of Orlando Philanthropy Day.”  The national celebration honored the great contributions that philanthropy – and those people active in the philanthropic community – have made to our lives, community, nation and the world.  National Philanthropy Day acknowledges the entire spectrum of services provided by the nonprofit sector and recognizes the profound impact philanthropy has on the fabric of society. More than 160 fundraising professionals are members of the Central Florida AFP Chapter and work together “to advance philanthropy by enabling people and organizations to practice effective and ethical fundraising.”

In addition, the event was a fundraiser for the AFP Central Florida Chapter, a membership organization, which provides scholarship and educational opportunities to further individual members’ professional development.

The Chatlos Foundation, Inc. thanks the AFP for this prestigious award.  You can find out more about the AFP Central Florida Chapter at www.AFPCentralflorida.com
